Philosophy Groups
Following the Introductory Course is Part 2, 3, 4 etc. These groups meet on various weeknights.
Enlightenment in Activity Saturday mornings
(Open to students of the School of Philosophy)
Learning how to use fine attention in manual tasks is extremely enlightening. The mind and emotions come to rest and tasks are performed with little loss of energy.
Students observe ‘watching the body doing all the movement and it actually being restful’ and ‘feeling completely present in the moment’. This is enlightenment-in-activity and it sets the foundation for finer use of the mind and ultimately spiritual knowledge. Students comment ‘I come away with more energy than when I started’.
The Saturday morning sessions run every week from 8am to Midday and you can attend for part of the time if desired. Each session involves performing manual tasks (suitable to the individual) with short breaks for discussion and feedback, and of course a cup of tea or coffee. The emphasis is on restful observation by attending to what’s in front of you, not ‘doing work’. The atmosphere is friendly and the outcome is that one's actions become more beautiful, refined and efficient.

Language revealing meaning
(Open to students of the School of Philosophy)
Knowledge is conveyed principally through speech and written language. For instance, our words and sentences are formed directly from how Nature operates and have their ancient origins in Truth.
Sanskrit is the earliest ‘complete’ language known to mankind, from which all languages arise. Some knowledge of Sanskrit words and concepts is useful in order to unlock knowledge of one’s self, the universe and its meaning.
Language courses are for anyone regardless of previous experience. Courses run throughout the year.
Enquiries to your group tutor.
Childrens group
(Open to families and friends of students of the School of Philosophy)
On Sunday mornings, childrens groups are held for ages 6-10 and 11-14. Interesting activities are provided to develop the child's attention through use of the senses, speech, thought and memory.
This includes group conversation, crafts and woodwork, handwriting, art, geometry, and practising stillness by connecting with the 5 senses.
The activities are non-religious, enabling the children to gain self knowledge through direct experience and questioning. The result is fulfilment of the child’s physical, mental and spiritual ability. Above all, the group is conducted with love, patience and happiness.

If you are interested in attending, enquire to your group tutor.

What is Art In Action? Download 2008 poster (PDF)
18 fine artists and craftsmen create work on-location, giving the public a real insight into the skills and procedures necessary for fine work. The disciplines represented include painting, drawing, sculpture, calligraphy, textiles, ceramics, instrument making. The artists are available to answer questions, to explain how they work, and to sell their work or take commissions. There are food and refreshments available, with artwork for sale throughout the building.
The aims of Art In Action are:
- To encourage high standards of artistic skill and creative design
- To bring together at one place and time the finest artists in each field of activity
- To show the way the artist works; to present what each artist feels is the essential element of their work including the content, meaning and message
- To show the tremendous possibilities that exist in each area, demonstrated by the high standards and excellence, and to exhibit artwork for purchase.
Art in Action is hosted by the School of Philosophy,
a non-profit educational organisation. The aim of the School's activities is to provide anyone with the opportunity to experience fine attention, self knowledge, and happiness. Art In Action is held in this spirit.
Feedback
The amount of Positive feedback from the 2006 event was overwhelming. Two examples:
“I just want to pass on to you my sincere thanks for all the hard work you and your team have put in, in preparation for and during the Art in Action weekend. Can you please pass on to all those involved my thanks. It was a wonderful weekend and I believe a few of the 'professional' galleries round the country could learn a lesson or two from your team as how to manage such a show.”
Trish Armour
“Notable comments from some visitors at my table included:
“These are artists we can identify and connect with!”
“It is so wonderful to be “up close and personal” with these artists we’ve always wanted to see them in action”
“I’ve never seen a real quill before!!”
“Wish I could have bought a weekend ticket, I still have questions and need to come back tomorrow to take in the beautiful artwork!”
