Meditation

“The system of meditation is not religious.

It is designed for the human spirit which is not bound to any religion.”

Shri Shantananda Saraswati

A simple form of guided meditation, the awareness exercise or stillness practice, is given in the introductory course. This starts the journey of a life-time enjoying the benefits of meditation. Helping to calm the mind, the awareness exercise makes the transition to full meditation easier. This practice together with the practical philosophy course material assists and prepares you for mantra-based meditation.

Practical philosophy students have been practising both the stillness practice and the mantra-based meditation for over 60 years.

The mantra-based meditation is offered in a traditional way after the first 4 courses have been completed. It stems from an ancient Indian philosophical tradition and is very simple and very gentle. The aim of meditation is to connect with deeper realms of being within oneself. It makes it possible to find rest, to recharge oneself and meet life with greater energy and happiness. Meditation is not a religion and does not depend on belief for its effectiveness. It simply works slowly but steadily to transform life.

Once introduced to meditation, continued care and support is offered for life.  Support includes one-to-one checks which are always available and free. In addition, group online meditations are held twice daily, Saturday morning group meditations are held in-person, meditation is part of weekly classes, a meditation morning is held once a term and a full day once a year.
